Illustration
Statue of Hercules discovered in 1980 at the ancient city of Perge in southern Turkey. It was reproduced in the late 2nd century CE from the 4th century BCE original by the Greek sculptor Lysippos. The top half of the statue was smuggled from Perge to the USA in 1981 where it remained in the collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for 30 years. It was returned to Turkey in 2011 and is now displayed with the rest of the piece at the Antalya Museum in Turkey.
