Bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award-winning author Trista Mateer returns with another mythical approach to self-care in her newest poetry collection, Persephone Made Me Do It.

Following her previous work in this series, Mateer weaves together mythology, tarot, poetry, and conversation to reveal a new side of a very old story. Alternating between the perspectives of poet and goddess, Persephone’s lore is explored, related to modern issues, and ultimately reclaimed.

“You want to talk about duality? You want to talk about love? Let us speak instead of chaos.”

In this new collection of art and feminist verse from Trista Mateer, Persephone might have flowers in her hair—but she is out for blood.

This is the third book in the
Myth & Magick series, which also includes Aphrodite Made Me Do It and Artemis Made Me Do It.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is visceral, powerful, and essential for anyone with a love of mythology and poetry. Hugely recommended. Be prepared to feel the fury and might of this lyrical masterpiece." — Nikita Gill, author of Great Goddesses

"Trista Mateer has her pen on the pulse of girlhood. In this third instalment of the
Myth and Magick series Mateer dissects mothers, daughters, and the stories that shape them. I devoured this book in a day, moved by these poems which take the language of myth and spin it into a new and glorious light. Persephone dazzles under Mateer's careful eye, speaking with candor and heart to those of us that have known survival intimately.” — Caitlin Conlon, author of The Surrender Theory

A truly magical experience of art and poetry that carried me during a difficult time in my life.

I really enjoy this poetry series. I have enjoyed the previous two books and this one was no exception. The author of these collections has a beautiful voice and I always enjoy the visuals that accompany the poems. These collections also are usually an ode to womanhood, the struggles and triumphs, many women may go through/experience. I also really enjoy the Greek mythology references.
Some poetry can feel a bit pretentious and may be difficult to read, these books are not like that at all. Any casual fan of poetry would enjoy these books. I highly recommend!

Every single one of her collections speaks to a different part of us. This one was no different. It caressed our flaws and told us to still keep trying. She beautifully takes us through a journey of how to still walk through life even with people there to make us cower. It was a fantastic read!

Trista has taken one of my obsessions and created amazing art in both visuals and words. Feminine rage is beautifully packaged but is a blunt-force weapon that heaves words and truth at you, running through butter like a hot knife.
The pain is forgiven because what a joy and relief it is to be seen. Heard by a woman like yourself. To read the words of a God created just like you. This book was simultaneously a joy and a kick to the heart, and I loved it.

This book was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed reading Trista's third poetry collection in her Greek mythology series. Out of the three books, this is by far my favorite. The artwork was great and the words were powerful. I bookmarked so many pages. This was an incredible read.

This collection of poetry was everything! Beautiful, moving, empowering….that will live in my mind and on my heart for a long time. Definitely going to get the physical copy to display on my bookshelf. Will also check out more by this author!

This collection of art and poetry was very thought-provoking and interesting. It’s very short and seems to focus more on the art than the poetry, which I wasn’t expecting. The poems are seemingly through the lens of a conversation between the poet and the Queen of Hell, which makes for an interesting dynamic.

There were some lines that absolutely stuck out but overall the collection was a bit too avant-garde for my tastes.

stunning conclusion to the trilogy; better than Artemis but not as good as Aphrodite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even More Than I Expected

Going in I had such a high bar of expectations for this book. Persephone's story being nearest to my heart of the 3 goddesses whose stories have unfolded through Mateer's artistry. I went in cautiously optimistic, and at every turn was met with exactly what I needed. This was the book that made me cry tears I needed to cry for too long.
