Did you know that the biggest territorial expansion in ancient Rome took place during the reign of its first emperor, who also ruled the longest out of all of the rulers prior to the fall of the Western Roman Empire?

The Roman Empire reached its zenith within the first two centuries of the fall of the Roman Republic, expanding its territory and spreading its influence well beyond the borders of Europe. During that time, a sort of global peace was achieved, which historians call the Pax Romana. But what exactly is the Pax Romana, and how does one delve into this huge, ever-expanding subject?

Like many other segments of Roman history, the Pax Romana is riddled with murky areas, contradictory information from contemporary sources, and fascinating archaeological finds. In this book, you’ll discover what made Rome tick during those roughly two hundred years of relative peace.

Throughout the pages of this tome, you’ll get brief glimpses of the reigns of many emperors who made the Pax Romana into what it was. Discover the Pax Romana’s long-term effects and how it managed to cement the Roman Empire as the go-to empire for many later civilizations to try and emulate.

Among other things, you’ll gain new knowledge on the following facts:
  • How the empire evolved from the former republic and who the men were that brought about the changes
  • What made the reign of each emperor unique
  • What some of the more turbulent times during this overarching period of peace were
  • Who the best emperors during the Pax Romana were, and which ones were considered the worst
  • What role the provinces and territorial expansion played in the growth and development of the empire
  • How the imperial Romans were stratified
  • What societal changes came about with the abolition of the republic and the return to a monarchic model
  • How the everyday Romans lived during the Pax Romana
  • How big of a role the Roman army played in maintaining the peace
  • How prominent the Senate was and whether or not its role was diminished or reinforced during certain periods of the Pax Romana
  • And so much more!

As with each Captivating History book, "Pax Romana" serves its readers well in fulfilling its purpose of delivering to them accessible, engaging details that make learning about the past fun. There is no reason for anyone and everyone interested in this content to spend time reading this release, as doing so is an enjoyable experience.

As a Biblical Scholar who specializes in the New Testament and the world of the Bible, this is an excellent, easy-to-read book that orientates people to Roman imperial politics. I am especially interested in Nero, and it is an excellent resource to help people understand his reign. Reading this book will enable students to place the claims of Jesus and the early Christians in context, especially in regard to the clash of Empires. I will be adding it to my reading lists for my students.

This book, in a well-articulated argument, presents the evolution and contributions of the Roman Empire. The reader will find a plethora of information. It is a well-researched book.

This book is an interesting and easy to read review about the main and most important aspects from the Pax Romana Period in Roman History. You will not become an expert, but you will know about the most important things, and you will even know about theories from different sources of some events that took place during that time. I think is a very good introductory history book.

If you're traveling to Rome and want to see it's in all it's glory that's possible. But this book and the backstory it provides - it allows you understand and go to places like the Bath of Titus, the Colosseum, the Temple of Vespasian, and many more with a history context.

It even goes into Hadrian's Wall (which is in the UK). It speaks clearly about the Romans at Hadrian's Wall and Hadrian's dissolution of the Jewish State. This leads into history last and this century for Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East.

An excellent book to complement another excellent book (Imperial Rome). Captivating history with this book has knocked it out of the park for this one the ease of reading yet in-depth explanation balance was nailed here.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another interesting book from 'Captivating History' - showcasing that 'Captivating' gift of personalising individuals to bring them alive and creating an almost visual impression of events, architecture, etc ….. although all varnished with a generous coat of assumption and guessing - it does work.
There is a tendency to ramble on here and there, and descriptions are given of deaths …only to, quickly, revive soon after.
It's amazing to read exact dates from this ancient period and one could wonder at how the BCE dates were quoted (before there was a BCE) then other dates in the early CE dates as the modern calendar was not adopted until 1592?
Still - there's much to learn about this fascinating period.
