The book is a comprehensive account of the military strategies and tactics employed by the Carthaginians and the Romans during the Second Punic War, with a particular focus on the career of the Carthaginian general Hannibal. The book begins with an overview of the political and military situation in the Mediterranean world in the third century B.C. and provides a detailed account of the events leading up to the outbreak of the Second Punic War. It then examines Hannibal's early campaigns in Spain and his famous crossing of the Alps in 218 B.C., which caught the Romans by surprise and allowed Hannibal to win a series of stunning victories against the Roman army.Dodge goes on to describe the various battles and campaigns that took place during the war, including the Battle of Cannae in 216 B.C., which is widely regarded as one of the greatest military victories in history. He also examines the political and military strategies employed by both sides, as well as the impact of the war on the wider Mediterranean world. The book concludes with an analysis of the Battle of Pydna in 168 B.C., which marked the end of the Second Punic War and the beginning of Rome's dominance in the Mediterranean world. Throughout the book, Dodge provides detailed descriptions of the military tactics and equipment used by both sides, as well as the political and social context in which the war was fought.Overall, Hannibal: A History Of The Art Of War Among The Carthaginians And Romans Down To The Battle Of Pydna, 168 B. This book is portrayed as being Dodge's work, and most of it is, though it is a collection of copied pages. The Battle Of Cannae is left out entirely, yet this was the most devastating defeat of the Roman Army. Also, Hannibals last years and death are are missing, the printing quality are poor, at best. This volume is not equal to Dodge's work.
